Post Office Closures
On 19th March 2008, there was a Hansard Debate in the House of Commons, a discussion was held on the possible closure of many selected post offices.
This debate was carried out by the United Kingdom Parliament - your parliament.
The vote was very close, it was sepparrated by just 20 votes;-
268 MP's opted to allow the post offices to remain open.
288 mp's opted to allow the closure to take place.
You will be interested to know that all 4 MP's for Wakefield voted to allow the closure to happen:-
They were Ed Balls (Mp).
Yvette Cooper (MP).
Mary Creagh (MP).
Jon Trickett (MP).
You elected them to work on your behalf.

A copy of a letter sent to the newspapers.
Despite the local community sending in over 1000 letters of objection and a large petition, the Post Office at Upper Altofts is still going to close.
How much proof is needed that this Post Office is a vital part of the community and is needed to be kept open, at least for the older and less able in its vicinity?
Sadly, if our 4 MP's had thought about the local impact before voting to go ahead with Post Office closures, Upper Altofts would not be in this position today.
We are looking to appeal against this very bad and thoughtless decision.

A letter to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
On Saturday 24th of May there was a protest and demonstration against the proposed closure of the upper Altofts Post Office. This first demonstration was well attended with many people from the local community, councilors and with media presence.
Additionally you may wish to know that your MP Edd Balls was invited to come to the demonstration, he did not come and neither did he send his apologies.
